The heart and soul of FUN Society are the amazing people who have been involved along the way, including staff, volunteers, boards, campers, peer leaders, parents and collaborators.

We would like to share some of our staff and volunteer stories with you.

If you are interested in becoming involved with an innovative, ethical and growing organization please contact us.  We are always eager to hear from people who share our vision and our passion for making the world a better place.

Jane Zhang - FUN Champs Coordinator

As a sustainability student, Jane loves to learn about the beautiful world we live in and inspire others to live sustainably. While at McGill University, she spent this past year studying urban planning in France and backpacking around Europe. She is happy to share what she's learned about leading active, sustainable, healthy lifestyles. She is very excited to be rejoining the FUN team this year and inspiring more youth into action!

Kailey Trevithick - Camp Leader

Kailey hails from the far off land of Southern Ontario, where she learned about the importance of connecting to nature in college, studying Ecosystem Management. Her passions are many and her interests fill notebooks. Tea, grapefruit, writing postcards, Quidditch, Snailwatching are tops on the list. But her greatest passion is listening to the wind in the trees and birdsong in the morning, and the stories people have to share about their lives. Kailey loves forest wandering and sitspots and hopes to be able to pass on the joy and wonder she gets watching honeybees at work or the pictures clouds make in the sky. She is beyond ecstatic to be joining the FUN team for the first time to share her knowledge about nature and learn from the campers too!

Victoria

Alison McLean - Camps Coordinator (2012/2013)

Alison's love of the outdoors, nature, exploring, healthy living and sustainability along with her passion for working with kids and youth of all ages is an amazing combination that is energizing her for the summer ahead.  Kids and youth have incredible power, creativity and passion and she is very excited to help inspire them to accomplish their ambitions.  The summer is coming quickly and it is going to be AWESOME!!!!

Zoë Mager - FUN Champs Coordinator (2013)

More than anything, Zoë loves: singing with others (harmonies!); and all things plant-y (eating, learning about, cultivating, making medicine from, and hanging out with them). She recently moved from the Pacific north-west, back east onto the Precambrian Shield, to finish her B.A. in Indigenous Environmental Studies at Trent University. She also works for the IES program as their student coordinator.  She's deeply committed to her responsibilities: as a human being, to our generous Mother Earth; and as a settler-Canadian, to those who share their territory with her. She's also super passionate about developing her own best practices and helping support others in: deepening connections to place, self-empowerment through food sovereignty, mindful design (permaculture), herbal medicine, and strengthening community cohesion.

Erin Lawless - Camp Leader (2012/2013)

This is Erin’s second year with FUN Camps, and she couldn’t be more excited for camp to start!! Erin was born and raised in Ottawa, where her passion for teaching children blossomed when she was a Rhythmic Gymnastics coach for over 6 years. She also lived in Jasper National Park, and Kamloops but is now proud to call Victoria home! Since coming to Victoria Erin has found her true passion for nature and the importance of environmental education. She has been actively involved in Victoria’s environmental community through volunteer and professional positions. She has also participated in some really awesome field studies including environmental leadership in the Rockies, learning about coastal ecosystems in California, and studying Giant Pandas in China. Erin likes to spend her spare time practicing yoga, paddling in her ocean kayak, and walking her dog along all the beautiful beaches that Victoria has to offer. Erin sincerely believes that children have an important role to play in the future of our planet, and is really excited to provide the support they need to step up, speak out and get involved! Let the reciprocal inspiration begin!!

Yuge - Vancouver FUN Champs Mentor (2012/2013)

Studied commerce at the University of British Columbia. She has been involved in numerous community sustainability projects throughout high school and enjoys working with children. In her spare time, she likes to try new things, create art pieces, and watch random documentaries with her family and friends. It makes her exceptionally happy to find good food in the fridge when she's hungry, and she looks forward to traveling and exploring different cities in the world.

Brianna - FUN Champs Mentor (2012/2013)

Currently studying art and sustainability at the University of British Columbia. She recently worked at a sea turtle conservation camp in Costa Rica, and loves to talk about wildlife conservation. A certified fun-addict, Brianna loves to work with kids whenever she can. Her work with the FUN society began when she volunteered at FUN camps over her summer break, and now the fun continues as she mentors FUN Champs!

Katie - Victoria FUN Champs Mentor (2012/2013)

Katie combines two of her greatest passions, working with youth and nature.  She has been working with youth for years and believes in their power to inspire change and spread creativity and wonderment in the world.  As an Environmental Studies student at the University of Victoria she is connected to many environmental issues that are happening and is passionate to create positive change and raise awareness about them.
